The 36th edition of the America’s Cup is marked by innovation.
This Friday 15th January the «Challenger Selection Series» begins where it is determined which foreign challenger will face the Defender Emirates Team New Zealand in the 36th edition of the America’s Cup in March 2021.
The race will consist of four round robin sessions starting this Friday, January 15.
Where the winner will qualify for the final of the PRADA Cup. The two remaining teams will compete in a semi-final of the PRADA Cup, with the winner also qualifying for the final of the PRADA Cup.
The final of the Cup begins on 13 February. The winner of the Challenger Selection Series will receive the PRADA Cup and will become the Challenger of the 36th Emirates Team New Zealand America’s Cup which will take place from 6 to 21 March 2021.
This edition is marked by innovation and by a complicated year with all the current pandemic situation. After more than two years of planning, data analysis, construction, testing and training, the four teams will compete with their AC75s with state-of-the-art foils. Thus, in the water will be the Italian ‘Luna Rossa II’, the British ‘Brittania II’, the American ‘Patriot’ and the New Zealand ‘Te Rehutai (Sea Breeze).
The new AC75 Luna Rossa by Prada features an ultra innovative design. No wonder. The boat, built by the luxury yacht maker Perisco Marine and designed by the team of Uruguayan-Brazilian designer Horacio Carabelli presents a stylish and avant-garde design, being the only Italian representative of the edition, with a team formed by legends such as Max Sirena and Australian Jimmy Spithill, we predict that the results can be very favorable for the Italian team, which so far has been presented as a strong and competitive team.
The official support boat of Luna Rossa in this edition is PARDO 38.
After the meeting between Max Sirena and Gigi Servidati at the Genoa Salon last year, it was decided that Cantiere del Pardo would participate, designing and building a Pardo 38 to accompany the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team. The Pardo 38 with its avant-garde design and more than 50 knots of power accompanies the team in Auckland and stands out in beauty and performance over the accompanying boats of the rival teams.
